Five years ago, plant-based options were scarce. But now even the most popular chocolate bars are going vegan and it’s seriously a game-changer.
If you ask me, KitKat is the best chocolate bar. Ever. Period. Fight me. But my dear vegan friends have been unable to appreciate its creamy, crunchy, perfectly portioned chocolatey goodness. Until now.
“One of the most common requests we see on social media is for a vegan KitKat, so we’re delighted to be able to make that wish come true,” Alexander von Maillot, head of confectionery at Nestlé, says.
KitKat V was developed by chocolate experts in Nestlé’s confectionery research and development center in York, UK, the original home of KitKat.

“Our challenge when we set out to create a vegan-friendly KitKat was to recreate this iconic product using plant-based alternatives. To achieve this, we worked very hard to get the right balance between the milk alternative and the cocoa,” Louise Barrett, head of the Nestlé confectionery product technology centre, says.
“The result is a vegan chocolate that we’re very proud of, and I hope all KitKat fans will love it as much as we do.”
As listed in the ingredients, cocoa butter is the ingredient behind KitKat V’s creamy texture so theoretically, you shouldn’t really be able to tell the difference between it and a regular KitKat.
KitKat V will be available for pre-order on the KitKat website as of today and it’ll hit Woolworths metro stores on July 26.
A nine-piece gift box will set you back $30 and only 2000 are available to get in quick. Orders will ship from Monday July 19.
It seems Nestlé is embracing the plant-based movement wholeheartedly, with condensed mylk and vegan Milo already in their arsenal.
“There is a quiet food revolution underway that is changing how people eat. We want to be at the forefront of that, championing the discovery of plant-based food and beverages,” says von Maillot.
