Seven breakfast recipes that include collagen to get you back on the path of both inner and outer beauty.
I think we can all agree that 2020 has already been a heck of a year. As we try and rearrange our lives back into something we recognise, self-care and routine have elbowed their way to the top of our priority lists.
I descended to some pretty shameful lows during lockdown: arriving at a first-name basis with three regular Deliveroo drivers, and days without my hair touching a brush. So I’ve decided to turn things around with a two week-long beauty challenge. The aim is to not only feel and look better, but to kick start some good habits, and leave room for the finer things in life (read: pancakes and waffles).
Seven days of not only eating breakfast – at breakfast time, not cereal over the sink at 9pm – but also working in a collagen supplement to each brekkie. I asked for guidance, and recipes, from wellness expert and founder of Dose & Co, Libby Mathews.

The collagen breakfast challenge
I’m now four days into my challenge and I genuinely notice a difference in my mood and general health. The routine of making breakfast each morning has always been one I fight against but immediately feel better getting into.
I’m still waiting on that collagen-girl-glow but it’s early days. When I asked Libby what she would tell people about starting a supplement regime she said, “One thing to be careful of when choosing beauty supplements is to look past the glossy marketing and ensure the product your buying actually contains ingredients that are going to provide nutrients and support to your skin and body.”
Day One Recipe: Take your beauty with coffee and cream
Monday’s recipe is the easiest, and kinda hard to beat. Pop your collagen in your morning coffee. Libby explains, ‘Our collagen creamers are probably our most popular option – we even have a dairy free option and they’re designed to be added to coffee to make it beautiful and creamy. You can use them as a milk alternative or be added with milk. I honestly cannot have my coffee without it. Our pure collagen powder can also be added to coffee, and is a great starting point for people introducing collagen into their diet.”
Day Two Recipe: Berry Chia Pudding

1 serving of Dose & Co Caramel dairy free Collagen Creamer
1 cup nut milk
5 tablespoons chia seeds
¼ cup berries of choice
In a glass combine the nut milk and chia seeds and stir well. Place in the fridge overnight.
In the morning, stir again. Using a food processor, blend the berries until smooth. Place the berries in a new glass and top with the nut milk and chia seeds. Add the collagen creamer and pulp of the passionfruit. Serve.
Day Three Recipe: Banana Bread
Everyone’s lock-down favorite, but with a beautiful twist.
2 servings Dose & Co Pure collagen powder
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup maple syrup
2 bananas, mashed (the browner the better)
1 extra banana if you want one on top to decorate
1 tablespoon vanilla essence
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups gluten free flour
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (fan forced). Line a loaf pan with baking paper.
In a bowl, beat the eggs, then add the butter and maple syrup. Mix well.
Add the mashed bananas, yogurt, baking soda, vanilla and salt. Mix and add the flour and collagen powder. Make sure all the mixture is well combined. Pour the batter into the loaf pan and place the sliced banana on top – bake for 50 minutes or until a knife or toothpick poked in it comes out clear. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before serving. It is best served warm with butter or Yogurt. Makes eight slices.
Day Four Recipe: Double chocolate pancakes
Who said beauty had to be boring?
1 serving of Dose & Co Chocolate Collagen Protein Powder
½ cup oats
¼ cup milk
¼ cup chocolate chips
2 tablespoons cocoa or cacao powder
1 tablespoon oil
¼ cup maple syrup or honey
½ cup strawberries halved
Add all of the smoothie ingredients apart from the oil into a blender and blend until smooth.
Heat a frypan over medium heat and pour in the batter. Once the batter starts to bubble, flip over and cook until both sides are crisp.
Day Five Recipe: The creator’s favourite
So how does the brains behind the beauty’s take hers? “I like to keep it simple’ says Libby. “My daily smoothie combo is Dose & Co vanilla collagen creamer, almond milk, frozen berries and honey. Delish.”
Day Six Recipe: Be berry nice to yourself
1 serving of Dose & Co Creamy Vanilla protein powder
1 frozen banana
1 cup mixed berries
1 cup almond milk
½ cup ice
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
Place the ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass or jar and cover with toppings. Serve cold.
Day Seven Recipe: Sunday waffles
1 serving Dose & Co Vanilla Collagen Protein Powder
1 cup oats
¼ cup nut milk
¼ cup maple syrup
½ teaspoon baking soda
Maple syrup or honey
Turn on your waffle maker so it heats up. Place all ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth. Pour mixture into the waffle maker and let cook. Repeat until all the mixture has been used. Cover with toppings of choice and serve warm.
