Dan Churchill is a celebrity chef, a qualified exercise physiologist and the resident food expert for Chris Hemsworth’s Centr app, so we’re guessing he knows a thing or two about how healthy snacking. Here, he shares his go-to recipe for a mid-afternoon munch to keep those hunger pains at bay.
The most important part of a satisfying snack is protein, and the combination of almond butter and protein powder in these bars makes them a great choice.
They don’t have the unhealthy additives that many store bought bars have, and are easy to make ahead of time. You can even freeze them if you prefer to make a batch and store them for later.

1 cup rolled oats
2⁄3 cup almond butter
30g natural protein powder
1 tsp bi-carb soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1⁄4 tsp salt
1 large egg
1⁄3 cup maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
1⁄2 cup coconut flakes
90g dark chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 190°C and line a 20 x 20 cm baking tin with baking paper.
Combine all ingredients in a food processor, except for coconut flakes and chocolate chips.
Once combined, stir through flakes and chips.
Press mixture into baking tin and bake for 15minutes or until solidified on top.
Remove from tin and let cool, then slice into bars to serve.
